Also known as the Woodstock Festival or the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, Woodstock was a musical festival that was held between the 15th and 17th of August, 1969. Though it was planned for three days, the event got extended and concluded on 18th August 1969. Various performers performed at this show conducted on Max Yasgur’s dairy farm. The festival was attended by over 400,000 young music enthusiasts. Here, we bring to you 27 rare pictures that were taken during this festival:

  1. Increased traffic

Though forty-eight years have gone by since the Woodstock music festival, this picture tells us how crazy it was back then. The traffic on the roads of New York was immense, and people parked their vehicles midway and started to walk to the farm to enjoy the festival.

2. Love is in the air

This rock music festival was known to be the meeting place of hippies from across the globe. Love was expressed freely, and here we see a couple so madly in love that they pose happily for the pictures.

3. No timely help

Here, we see the disturbing photo of a young man suffering from head injuries. He fell out of a car, and people are seen surrounding him. Unfortunately, the accident happened on the road that led to Woodstock, and he couldn’t get quick medical help due to the chaos created by traffic.

4. Hippie Girls

In this rare collection of photographs from Woodstock, we find three hippie girls enjoying and lazing around with a care in the world, in front of a Volkswagen Bus. It was considered to be a stylish means of transport back then and it is very unlikely that you will find hippie girls like these on the streets today.

5. Overcrowded

What do you do when you expect a crowd of around 50,000 and more than 400,000 turn up for an event? That’s exactly what happened at the Woodstock. The organizers went into panic mode; the governor of New York thought of taking the help of the National Guard, and a state of emergency was declared during the festival.
