The Vietnam War is considered to be one of the most horrific incidents in the world. It went on for about twenty years (from 1955 to 1975) and killed hundreds of soldiers and civilians in the process. The war was between the US troupes and Vietnamese forces. The US had appointed soldier Charlie Haughey to take some pictures during this period to improve the morale and confidence of youngsters. Haughey proceeded to take thousands of pictures during his tenure. However, due to the pain and torture in these pictures, he had not released many of them. During 2012, he released most of the pictures, and they created ripples all over the world. Here, we are going to see 25 such powerful pictures that tell you the tale, emotions, and consequences of the Vietnam War.

1. Soldiers boarding a chopper

In this picture, we can spot a few American soldiers running towards the Chinook helicopter to move to the next location of war. The soldiers were constantly asked to move to different places in the jungle and helicopters were the main modes of transport used.

2. Masked activists

This picture was taken in the Nam Can Forest, and activists are seen here are wearing masks while crossing the mangrove forests. Activists used to hide their faces so that they could be not be captured for interrogation by any forces.

3. Physical examination

During 1973, North Vietnam conducted a mandatory physical examination program. Young males were recruited into the Vietnamese army based on a series of physical tests. The North Voluntary Group in Vietnam had around half a million soldiers by around 1975.

4. Soldier with arms

A soldier is seen walking in the woods with a cigar in his head and heavy arms & ammunition loaded on his back. He seems to be cautious about the serious day ahead of him at the battleground, and he seems to be quite anxious about the same. This was one of the most candid pictures clicked by Haughey during his assignment.

5. Transport of soldiers

The emotions of the soldiers say it all it in this picture. They are looking pensive, sullen and tired after a long day, as they are being transported in a Chinook helicopter over the skies of Vietnam. One cannot escape the pain and sadness in their eyes, and it does cause us some grief to look at their faces.
